Surgical Fees
Sydney Hip Surgery aims to provide a high-quality, modern surgical service.
We base our surgical fees on the recommended rates set by the Australian Medical Association.
This fee takes into account the procedural time taken, the technical complexity and the costs of running a high-quality modern surgical practice.
Why is there a gap?
Over the years, Medicare and the Health Insurers have not increased the rebates they repay to patients at the same rate as inflation. Meanwhile, practice costs such as staffing, rent, software subscriptions and insurance are constantly increasing. The difference between Dr Williams’ surgical fee and what your insurer and Medicare will pay you as a rebate is known as the ‘Gap’ or ‘Out of Pocket’ expense, which you will pay yourself.

‘No Gap’ and ‘Gap Cover’ schemes
While Dr Williams may be a listed provider with insurers for their No Gap or Gap Cover schemes in order to minimise out-of-pocket costs for trauma patients admitted when he is on-call (such as unexpected broken bones), he generally does not participate in No Gap or Gap Cover schemes for elective surgery.
